A few weeks ago we got Blane from Parkour Generations to take us through a ‘Parkour Push Up’.

In this instance we have Blane demonstrating variations of the Muscle Up. The Muscle Up is an important training exercise in Parkour as it teaches and increases strength in the ability to get up and over objects.

In the clip below Blane demonstrates the traditional overhand muscle up, the mixed grip muscle up and the reverse grip muscle up. There is also an eccentric Muscle Up which is used to train for the Muscle Up. If you haven’t tried them yet give them a go!

If you find they are a little tough work on being powerful on your pull, practice deep dips and throw in some eccentric muscle ups and you’ll Muscling your way up before you know it!!

I’ve been lucky enough to have met Blane from Parkour Generations. As Blane runs the Parkour sessions at the OLF Training Centre- Home of the Trojans, I thought it would be a good idea to ask him to take us through some training exercises that specifically help to develop strength in Parkour. Blane thought it would be a great idea and as a result I filmed him a couple of weeks ago performing a Parkour Push Up.

But first take a look at Blane in action doing what he does:

The Parkour Push Up is extremely important for developing forearm to wrist/ hand transitions. This transition is what occurs during muscle ups and getting up and over walls. As you’ll see in the clip below the Parkour Push Up isn’t too similar to a ‘Yoga’ or ‘ Divebomber’ varieties. The difference is the forearm to had transition.

Like any new skill the idea is to practice, practice, practice. After you’ve mastered this the idea would be then to integrate it into muscle ups and wall climbs. We’ll have more from Blane over the coming weeks.
